I remember, not too long ago, reading content with a prominent blogger and SEO expert about “mobile blogging”. He had a “blogging box” which allowed him to blog wherever he was (that we thought was a bit stupid and pretentious). It included an electronic camera, a laptop which has a 3G modem, a notepad and pen, and various other bits and pieces. The whole lot pretty much fit in a suitcase.
Thankfully, things have progressed somewhat, and we have WordPress apps for iPhone/iPad and Android. Both apps are now compatible with increased or fewer recent versions of WordPress. That said, ensure you check which version of WordPress you have to be running in order to access your dashboard via mobile.
Blogging vs Microblogging
Obviously, your main limitation when you use a phone for blogging is the fact things are all just a little bit much more of an irritation. You simply can’t type as quickly, upload numerous pictures, format too, or perform a few advanced things. That can be done just about anything you may need, but it’s more cumbersome.
That said, the best way forward is clearly microblogging. By microblogging I would not mean a twitter-esque update. I simply mean a bare-bones post, having a picture and several commentary that you just looked at as you were from the laptop along with a wi-fi connection.
What this enables you to do, amongst other things, is live-blog events and issues that happen. Should you spot something exciting, you can take a photo or even a video of computer and hang it on your own blog before you even get back. Should you be in the industry of breaking news, this could be invaluable.
