Band Marketing and promotion – The way to Market Band and Get More Gigs

I believed about scripting this post on band promotion since i often hear new bands and struggling musicians wishing they were more paying gigs. Obtaining a paying gig is great, I mean… you would spend considerable time, energy and also funds on having your act together.. rehearsing, planing a trip to rehearsals and gigs (gas can be quite a pain should you travel by car), buying your gear, etc. But getting money gigs for brand spanking new acts can be extremely difficult.

While I believe it is great to obtain paid, I do not mean to express you should think of a band as a business. Some tips i am saying is, it might be practical to at least have your costs covered.

Of course, that could rely on both you and your logic behind why you are in a band initially.

Some bands wish to play; love playing; feel that playing and getting their music available is the best compensation there exists… as well as the return with their purchase of effort, time and expense is that possibility to get up there and PLAY. There are also individuals that work on a long-term goal like building their very own following and getting their music across for them.

The reasons why you’re doing so, virtually sums it.

But, should you wanted to get paying gigs, here are a couple actions you can take.

1. Develop Your Product

Now and then I come across a client who struggles with promoting their services or products, and hang in a number of effort and then get minimal results. The key reason is, they have not had the ability to accurately develop, define and refine their product, which explains why aggressively promoting something mediocre will forever yield mediocre results.

So what exactly is your products? This rock band, plus your music. The main element real question is how will you set yourself independent of the rest. What is it you accomplish is unique, or the gender chart which can be done much better than all the others?

“What would you like website visitors to remember and LIKE you for?”

2. Define Your Music/Repertoire

Repertoire defines which band you’re. What’s more, it defines who your audience is. In my opinion writing and recording original materials are great because insurance agencies your own personal music you develop a property that others don’t have. It is that final quantity of a collaborative creative effort that band promotion BUT, won’t guarantee success, since to your band being successfully renowned for your own music, you’d first need to attract viewers that gets to listen for and enjoy it.

On a single note, as a cover band does not necessarily mean you are unable to get paying gigs. There are plenty of canopy bands that will get paid well for small bar gigs or perhaps major events.

Just what it relies on may be the novelty in the band, plus your draw. Novelty is that something about yourself that folks should come see; plus your draw may be the size of the bunch it is possible to gather at the gigs.

3. Market Yourself

You need to sell you to ultimately people that you believe would thank you for your band and what you are offering. You will find basically 2 kinds of people you would like to market to; there are the people who you desire arriving at your gigs and appreciating your own music, as well as the those who are capable of hire you for gigs.

This could be the classic “the chicken or even the egg scenario”, that you actually improve your audience and get more exposure by being playing more gigs, but to obtain more gigs you have to obtain invited or hired by individuals who have aid to produce gigs happen.

But it need not be complicated. You just have to do both concurrently.

Networking is key. The greater people you can meet, the harder contacts you establish, the closer you can your goals.

4. Management / Representation

You must have a manager. A specialist figure which team you trust and depend on to get results for nothing less than the success and well-being in the band.

A manager must be a tenacious businessman. He is a negotiator, understands marketing, and above all he believes from the product he is entrusted with. His main goal would be to sustain and develop further the product he manages.

Having a manager may have several advantages, then one of the things that managers being able to do that bands that manage themselves cannot, is be objective. The manager sees something individual members in the band tend not to see, this runs specifically true when some individuals this rock band develop egos that cloud their judgment. Members tend to get tunnel vision and may also not respond well with people’s opinions that may not be flattering, a manager knows if criticisms are valid and take these not emotionally but objectively.

A manager is both a member of the gang and outsider; a part as he works together with the gang to accomplish their dreams. He is an outsider who are able to make rational decisions and also be critical in the group when it fails to deliver what their audience expects.

Musicians is often probably the most stubborn of people, as well as the least receptive to criticism, and a trusted opinion from an authority figure might help this rock band work to better the product. Remember that the manager is especially a business person, anf the husband runs this rock band since it is “profitable”… the easier to showcase a band, the harder money commemorate, the harder money the manager makes as well.

Managers should be very aggressive and chronic, a pal of mine (a manager for any huge act) once informed me a tale about how precisely she approached bar after bar and then get denied each time and was given a variety of reasons and excuses. She never lost the battle, and did not quit her band… today that band is a major recording artist… and they have been big for a long time now.
