Band Marketing and promotion – How to Promote Your Band and acquire More Gigs

I believed about writing this post on band promotion because I be familiar with new bands and struggling musicians wishing they were given more paying gigs. Finding a paying gig is good, After all… spent time and effort, energy and even money on having your act together.. rehearsing, visiting rehearsals and gigs (gas could be a pain should you travel by car), buying your gear, etc. But getting money gigs for new acts can be extremely difficult.

While I believe that it is great to obtain paid, I would not mean to say think about a band as being a business. A few things i am saying is, it would be practical to a minimum of have your costs covered.

Naturally, that could be determined by you and the main reasons why you have a band to start with.

Some bands wish to play; love playing; think that playing and becoming their music out there is the foremost compensation there is certainly… and the return of the acquisition of effort, time and money is possibility to stand up there and PLAY. There are also others who focus on a long-term goal like building their unique following and becoming their music across to them.

Exactly why you do it, virtually sums it.

But, should you wished to get paying gigs, here are some actions you can take.

1. Develop Your products or services

Once in a while I come across a client who struggles with promoting their products or services, and hang in a number of effort just to get minimal results. The key reason is, they haven’t yet managed to accurately develop, define and refine their product, which is the reason aggressively promoting something mediocre will forever yield mediocre results.

So what exactly is your product or service? This rock band, along with your music. The key question for you is how would you set yourself aside from the rest. The gender chart you accomplish differs from the others, or what is it you can do much better than all the others?

“What would you like website visitors to remember and LIKE you for?”

2. Define Your Music/Repertoire

Repertoire defines what type of band you happen to be. In addition, it defines who your audience is. I think writing and recording original materials are great because insurance agencies your personal music you develop a good thing that others don’t have. It really is that final amount of a collaborative creative effort that band promotion BUT, does not guarantee success, since on your band being successfully recognized for your own music, you’d probably first have to attract an audience which gets to listen for and appreciate it.

On the same note, as being a cover band does not mean you cannot get paying gigs. There are plenty of canopy bands that will get paid well for small bar gigs as well as major events.

What it relies on could be the novelty from the band, along with your draw. Novelty is something about yourself that people would want to come see; along with your draw could be the size the crowd you are able to gather at the gigs.

3. Market Yourself

You need to sell you to ultimately people who you imagine would thank you for your band along with what you are offering. You can find basically 2 types of people you want to industry to; there are the people who you need going to your gigs and appreciating your own music, and the those who are capable to hire you for gigs.

This can be the classic “the chicken or egg scenario”, that you actually increase your audience and have more exposure when you’re playing more gigs, but to obtain additional gigs you got to obtain invited or hired by individuals who have a hand to produce gigs happen.

However it need not be complicated. Simply do both concurrently.

Networking is key. The harder people you get to meet, the harder contacts you establish, the closer you get to your ultimate goal.

4. Management / Representation

You ‘must’ have a manager. An expert figure whom you trust and rely on to get results for nothing more than the success and well-being from the band.

A supervisor needs to be a tenacious businessman. He could be a negotiator, understands marketing, and even more importantly he believes in the product he’s entrusted with. His definitive goal would be to sustain and develop further the merchandise he manages.

Creating a manager might have many advantages, the other of the things managers doing that bands that manage themselves cannot, is be objective. The manager sees something individual members in the band usually do not see, this is especially true when some individuals this guitar rock band develop egos that cloud their judgment. Members tend to get tunnel vision and can not respond well with people’s opinions that may not be flattering, a manager knows if criticisms are valid and take these not emotionally but objectively.

A supervisor is both associated with the audience and outsider; an affiliate as he works together with the audience to attain their dreams. He could be an outsider who are able to make rational decisions and even be critical from the group whether or not this fails to deliver what their audience expects.

Musicians can be the most stubborn of people, and the least receptive to criticism, as well as a trusted opinion from a specialist figure can help this guitar rock band attempt to better the merchandise. Do not forget that the manager is first and foremost a business person, and that he runs this guitar rock band because it is “profitable”… the easier to advertise a band, the harder money celebrate, the harder money the manager makes also.

Managers also need to be very aggressive and chronic, a buddy of mine (a manager for any huge act) once explained a story about how she approached bar after bar just to get denied each and every time and it was given all kinds of reasons and excuses. She never quit, and didn’t give up her band… today that band is a major recording artist… and actually they’ve been big for a while now.
